Kendal Mountain Film Festival Premiere.

I just got word through about the Call it what you want premieres at Kendal Mountain Festival next month (November).

It's showing as part of 'Climbing 3' at the following times:

Thursday 20th - 7pm at The Shakespeare Centre
Friday 21st - 9am in The Studio at the Brewery Arts Centre
Friday 21st - 1pm in Screen 2 at the Brewery Arts Centre
Saturday 22nd - 9am in Screen 1 at the Brewery Arts Centre
Sunday 23rd - 12.30pm at The Shakespeare Centre

We'll be there to introduce some of the showings and hope to see you there! I'd recommend coming to see it either on the Friday at 1pm or Saturday at 9am on the BIG screen.

Call it what you want is a new climbing film by SteepMedia. It premieres at Kendal Mountain Film Festival in November.

Call it what you want follows Kendal climber, George Ullrich, as he tests himself over a year, at home in the UK and further afield.

We see him climb Lake District testpieces, skip bolts on The Bachar-Yerian, nail Californian first ascents and solo above the ocean in Mallorca.

As problematic situations arise, the film asks other notable climbers how they deal with the issues and ideas that drive the sport.

Call it what you want asks the question, "what is truly important in rock climbing?"

US Segment Preview

A few days ago we were in Tuolumne Meadows, CA, shooting for the climbing film due in November.

We filmed George Ullrich and Mason Earl attempting to climb Bachar-Yerian (5.11c R) on Medlicott Dome, without any fixed protection. Only natural gear placement. It was pretty outrageous.

Impact Day E8/9 6c - Summer in February!? VIDEO STILLS

Exactly one week after ticking 'Torture Board', and a matter of a few days after 'Dawes Rides a Shovelhead' (see below post), George Ullrich was up at Pavey Ark, Langdale - the camera was rolling (ooh cliche) and the weather was reaching the end of the spell of perfection.

Having spent the previous day on the shunt trying this line, he managed to link it just before being benighted.

The lead seemed to go pretty well. A truly inspiring line in the bag. Impact Day E8/9 6c - Pavey Ark - F.A Dave Birkett 1999.

The penultimate move on Impact Day involves this horrendous mono and a big reach to a crimpy edge. Urghh.

So, in exactly a week, that's:

Torture Board E7 6c - Reecastle
Dawes Rides A Shovelhead E8 6c - Raven Crag
Impact Day E8/9 6c - Pavey Ark
1 sheep that fell off the top of Pavey Ark, hit the floor and exploded on impact, landing about 4 metres away from a very lucky climber
2 trips in 2 days of the path up to Pavey with a whole lot of camera & rigging kit - sore legs after that one!

And all of it was caught on film (except the sheep incident and the slog up the hill). Keep checking back for previews etc.

Dawes Rides A Shovelhead E8 6c

In February, we had a week long dry spell up here in the Lake District (!). I kid you not, a whole week.

Making the most of the weather, George Ullrich climbed an E7 at Reecastle called 'Torture Board'. This got him psyched to try some of the infamous hard lines in the Lakes, namely Dave Birkett's 'Dawes Rides A Shovelhead' (E8 6c, Raven Crag, Langdale) and 'Impact Day' up at Pavey Ark.
